While the reaction to the latest home strip has been lukewarm at best, Arsenal seem to have at least made partial amends with their new 2018-19 away kit unveiled to partner it.
The shirt is rendered in “peacoat navy” — a deep shade of blue, echoes of which Puma assure us can be found in the Gunners’ away kits all the way back to the turn of the 20th century.

The jersey also features a red wave across the chest which is a stylistic nod to the fabled ‘WM’ formation (a dynamic 3-2-2-3) introduced by Herbert Chapman, Arsenal’s legendary manager of the 1920s and 30s.
The end result is a thoroughly futuristic-looking, sleek shirt which is laden with subtle details invoking the past.
